The Specialization Stage - (ages 15 - 18)
Objective:
To optimize
fitness levels and preparation for sport, fitness, and fun competitions.
The development of tactics and techniques of participating in a specific
sport are premium. Competition specific training is vital for individuals
participating in sport.
Individuals who have been participating in a well rounded program, which
has emphasized multi-skill training, will now work towards achieving
potential in a specialized sport or activity. These young people are
capable of greater training and competition demands than those in earlier
stages of development.
This stage of development is marked by; the development of strategies
specific to the game, improvements of motor abilities, continued development
of the aerobic capacity, a steady increase in the volume and intensity
of training, decision-making processes, and training that reflects the
specific needs of the sport or activity chosen. Improving the techniques
necessary to successfully perform and excel at a sport or activity is
the most vital aspect of the physical program.
