The Basics Stage - (normally ages 4 - 9 years of age)
Objective: Learn
all fundamental movement skills and perform at a minimal of Level 2
on all 12 Basic Skills.
Development of these skills will always utilize a fun and positive approach.
Games and fun drills are always included in this stage. Instructors
are certified through the YC Movement Skills for Life Program. These
skills are the precursors of all fitness and sport activities. Their
development will position and enhance the child's opportunity to achieve
their potential in the physical realm. The emphasis on movement skill
development will position future athletes with a better platform of
development for future achievements in the sports realm. The Basics
stage is well structured and always fun. The emphasis is on the overall
development of the child's physical capabilities through proper movement
skill development. Skill development (movement skills) is combined in
a wholesome atmosphere with Ability development (coordination, strength,
speed).
According to Istavan Balyi, one of the foremost experts in childhood
physical development, there are 3 stages of movement skills development;

YC
ZONE'S goal is to establish proficiency of all participants
- equivalent to a Level 2 score - on the YC Movement Skills for Life
Profile. This would insure that all children are able to perform the
skill correctly while standing still or moving in one direction. Older
and more advanced children will actually enter the higher levels of
movement skill training (Levels 3 and 4). Development levels 3 and 4
allow for the correct performance of the skill with time, speed, and
dimensional (direction) changes.
